Pontcanna is conveniently situated, so close to the City centre, you never really need to use a car, as everything is within level walking or cycling distance and a lovely walk it is too! Just stroll along beside the banks of the river, through Bute Park - an extensive area of parkland flanked by the River Taff, Sophia Gardens, Pontcanna Fields, Llandaff Fields and the Castle - to reach Cardiff City Centre with its vast array of shopping facilities. Not that Pontcanna is short of its own shops. At the north end of Cathedral Road is a range of excellent small specialist shops, including delicatessen, excellent butchers, and around the corner on Pontcanna Street, are a pair of up-market ladies fashion shops, the fragrant Costa Rica coffee shop, gift shops, fine arts, antiques, interior designs, etc... But Pontcanna is best known for its stylish cafes and restaurants including – Cameo Club, Diner 77, Café Brava, Cibo Italian Bar/Café and Le Gallios Restaurant, places where you may rub shoulders with the stars of Welsh television - Pontcanna is often referred to Cardiff’s media city.

Pontcanna Fields has a wonderful avenue of trees, riding school where many a local child has learnt to ride and numerous sports pitches. Then there’s the beautiful Llandaff Fields where local residents soak up the sun or take a barbeque on a summers day, or take peaceful autumn walks along the leafy central avenue with the spire of Llandaff Cathedral above the trees. Here you will also find ten excellent tennis courts, bowling green and a safely enclosed children's playground. For the more energetic the Taff Trail is close by - a cycle path which takes you towards Castell Coch in one direction and to Cardiff Bay in the other.

Bute Park provides a great place to ‘chill out’ on a warm summers day, maybe enjoy a picnic, cycle, play with the kids, hop on the river bus and ride down to Cardiff Bay, or simply stroll along taking in the beauty of the parklands, full of historic and wildlife interest, a welcome retreat, it is so easy to forget how close you are to the centre of the capital until you glance up and see the fairy tale towers of the Castle and the impressive National Stadium looming above the trees. The park attracts over 1,000,000 visits a year and plays a vital role in the city's events calendar - the RHS Show Cardiff is just one of such flagship events.
